The origin of this tribal rug is Herat, a border town in the North West of  Afghanistan and has been made by the Baloch Tribe.
It's a 100% hand spun sheep wool carpet. Vegetable dyes have been used to make this carpet. This has a merger of Caucasian and Persian patterns which shows weavers association with the origin of their forefathers and of their own. This is about 25 years old carpet with soft wool.
Baluchis who wove pile rugs during recent centuries lived primarily in western Afghanistan and across the Iranian border in Khorasan Province, the largest administrative sector in Northeastern Iran. Large numbers of Baluch and Baluch-style rugs are still made in Afghanistan, mainly in nomadic camps. Rug weaving remains a vital source of income for many thousands of Baluch living in nomadic camps, towns, and villages.
