The origin of this tribal rug is Herat based on a border town in the North West of  Afghanistan and has been made by the Baloch Tribe (Nomad) of that area.
100% hand spun sheep wool with vegetable dyes has been used in this carpet. This carpet has a merger of Caucasian and Persian patterns which shows weavers association with the origin of their forefathers and of their own.
Large numbers of Baluch and Baluch-style rugs are still made in Afghanistan, mainly in nomadic camps. Rug weaving remains a vital source of income for many thousands of Baluch living in nomadic camps, towns, and villages. Few tribes continue subsistence nomadism to the extend still found in western Afghanistan.
